Situated in one of the most vibrant and dynamic locations in the seaside city of Pattaya, the D2Baraquda hotel targets clients, looking for a different holiday experience in Southeast Asia. To evoke a sense of serenity and boldness, like a yacht cruising atop dynamic waves, the overall space and form of the building are shaped by oscillating lines. Starting from the front 12-metre cantilevered box, where the fourth floor ‘Deep Bar’ is located, the oceanic theme sets sail. The undulating motif of the Wave Wall, in the lobby, shapes architectural elements, such as the balustrades and the curved periphery of the pool. ANTHONY GIANZERO SALON | New York City | SPG Architects

Upon signing the lease for this ground floor commercial space, Anthony Gianzero approached SPG Architects to design his new salon. Located a block west of heavily commercialized Eighth Avenue, in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, but with little retail activity, Gianzero wanted to give the 500 SF store front a strong visual presence in order to serve as a destination for his clientele. From the formerly derelict and abandoned space, SPG Architects designed an environment that focuses the activity of the salon around a bar-like reception area where clients can relax. The design involves bars of light, mirrors, glass, and stainless steel grounded by richly stained blue-black cabinetry and flooring. The sense of lightness and reflectivity created by the light and reflective materials remarks on the ephemeral nature of beauty. The solid feel of the flooring and cabinetry provide a distinct sense of place for the stylists and their clientele......more

Hair Salon Interior | Suite Hair Salon | Fukuoka City, Japan | Case Real

"Homage to the existing tiles" - A hair salon in Fukuoka City, Japan. Converted from an old four-story office building. The salon is on the first to third floors, the residence is on the fourth floor. The problem was how to work with the white tiled exterior which was the only character of the building and definitely not fascinating at all. Either remove all of the tiles or make good use of them. We tried to make a new concept using these tiles as a proof of the history of the building. We finally started to build the interior with other tiles and to adore these exterior white tiles. We used different colors and luster of tiles for the floors and the walls in the salon. The gradation of the tiles formed the character of the salon.....more

Salon Interior Design | Mizu Salon, Mandarin Oriental Hotel,Boston | Niall McLaughlin Architects

Mizu Salon is in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Boston, facing onto the Arcade and Gardens beyond.

The key design issue is the comfort and wellbeing of each customer. This is an environment that is calm and uplifting. A customer should leave the salon feeling nurtured.

Soft spaces are created through strategic reflective lighting, light boxes and soffits. The cool colour temperature creates a sense of calm and cleansing whist warm gold colours introduce a feeling of relaxation and comfort.

An arcaded passageway extends along the glass shop window. It leads from reception to hair cutting, dyeing and colour dispensary. This passageway makes a sculptural form when seen from the mall. It acts as a screen, making the cutting room a protected inner sanctum.

The simple vaulted cutting room is animated by repeating cuts in the soffit, which open into brightly lit spaces. When you lie back at your basin, you gaze on the ceiling's beautiful geometry....more
